Place To Call Home believe that lots of people who live in the East Midlands have the skills, knowledge and experience to become great foster carers – and we would love to talk to you!
If you’ve ever thought about fostering or providing supported lodgings, please get in touch for an informal chat. We’ll be able to guide you with the support and training that is offered and help you to decide which fostering path is the right one for you.
We consider each person’s interest on an individual basis, so don’t rule yourself out… Count yourself in.
You can be a foster carer regardless of whether you:
- are single, married or unmarried
- are of any sexual orientation or gender identity
- identify as having a disability
- are in employment or not, or receiving benefits
- have birth children, or not
- are a home owner, or live in rented accommodation
- have any ethnic or religious background
You need to be at least 21 years old but there is no upper age limit to be able to foster.
You will also need to be able to speak and write in English, but we welcome people who can speak other languages fluently too. This is not essential as we can provide translation services.
Already a foster carer?
If you’re already an approved foster carer and would like to transfer to your local authority to support a young refugee, we can help.
Transferring is simple. Place to Call Home will talk you through the process and the benefits of fostering for your local authority. Your enquiry will be confidential and your current agency won’t be informed unless you decide to progress.
If you decide to go ahead with the transfer, you’ll need to let your current fostering agency know.
Throughout the transfer process, your local authority will work with you and your existing service to make sure that everyone understands what will happen, that any children or young people placed with you are supported and that any disruption is kept to a minimum.
